Connect Karo 2023 | Inspiring and Enabling Action on Reducing Food Loss and Food Waste in India

More than one-third of all food produced is lost or wasted from farm to plate and this huge amount of food loss and food waste exacerbates food and nutrition insecurity in a world where one in ten people is undernourished, as per the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

Research by WRI shows that globally reducing food loss and waste by 25% can reduce the food calorie gap by 12% and help mitigate GHG emissions by 15%. Bringing attention to this issue, this session will focus on highlighting food loss and food waste reduction as a critical step for addressing issues of food and nutrition security, environmental impacts and economic losses.

Offering a discursive platform for cross-learning on best practices and fostering collaborative strategies, the session engaged with key experts engaged in working towards the issue while sharing key recommendations from India’s latest Think20 (T20) Policy Brief on Reducing Food loss and Waste published by T20 India, the G20’s official Engagement Group for think tanks, under the thematic area of LiFE, Resilience, and Values for Wellbeing.
