Prof. E. F. N. Ribeiro

Chairman, Board of Governors, SPA-Bhopal, Prof. Edgar Ribeiro joined the TCPO, Govt. of India in mid-1962 from where he superannuated as Chief Planner in Dec. 1988. He was deputed to serve as the first Commissioner Planning at the Delhi Development Authority (1979-83), prior to a spell through UNCHS at Jamaica for simplified Development Control guidelines as a model for the UK colonized Caribbeans. Post superannuation, Prof. Ribeiro served as Director SPA, Delhi (1989-92) later he became Director of the Association of Municipalities and Development Authorities (AMDA) for seven years. He was Vice-President of International Society of City and Regional Planners – ISOCARP (1985-92), the first Asian to do so. Also he was President, Institute of Town Planners, India for two terms.

His current professional interests centers around simplified spatial frameworks for growth through participatory governance on the dimensions of inclusive spatial growth and for which he travels frequently across India as an Advisor. He resides in Goa from where he functions as Chairman, Board of Governors, SPA-Bhopal. Prof. Edgar Ribeiro studied Architecture at Sir, J. J. School of Arts, Mumbai and Town and Country Planning at the Victorian University of Manchester U.K.
