Mr. Akshay Mani is Project Manager – Urban Transport at EMBARQ India. He is based in Mumbai and manages EMBARQ India’s research, policy and project initiatives aimed at improving the intermediate public transport (IPT) sector (auto-rickshaws and taxis) as an important part of sustainable transport in cities. Akshay leads EMBARQ India’s activities on further research, information dissemination and policy-level engagement with key stakeholders at the city, state and national levels to take these recommendations forward and supports stakeholder engagement efforts to promote the role of entrepreneurs in achieving triple- bottom-line benefits in the auto-rickshaw sector. Mr. Mani is the lead author of the recently published Sustainable Urban Transport in India – Role of the Auto-rickshaw Sector, which presents a policy vision for auto-rickshaws in sustainable urban transport, and reform recommendations to organize services and address environmental and road safety challenges facing this sector. Akshay manages EMBARQ India’s auto-rickshaw project in Rajkot, which involves providing technical expertise and advice, and stakeholder engagement support to Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) to improve auto-rickshaw service in the city.
