Ajay Goel, Chief Operations Officer- Sun Mobility

Ajay Goel is the COO at Sun Mobility and the Senior Advisor for Cleantech at Sun Group. Previously, he was the CEO at Tata Power, the President of Solar and Chief New Businesses at ReNew Power, and the Vice President of Global Product Operations at SunEdison. He has a background in electrical engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA in Finance, Entrepreneurship and Marketing from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Amit Bhatt, Strategy Head, Cities & Transport

Amit Bhatt is strategy head for integrated urban transport at WRI India Ross Center. He provides vision and leadership to all transport initiatives, and manages relationships with partners and stakeholders. Bhatt leads the work around BRT projects and city bus services in SuratIndoreJaipur and Bangalore; urban transport projects in Naya Raipur; restructuring the auto-rickshaw sector in Rajkot; and developing a public bicycling scheme in Jaipur. He has over 12 years of experience in the sector, and was educated in transport planning, economics and transport economics and management.

Amrit Abhijat, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

Amrit Abhijat is the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Mission Director of Housing for All (HFA). He is an Indian bureaucrat, civil servant and officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre of the Indian Administrative Service. He is posted as Secretary & Director General of Uttar Pradesh Tourism. Amrit began in the Uttar Pradesh cadre of the IAS. He joined the Jt. Magistrate, Land Revenue Management & District Administration at Mathura in August 1997, and served there for nineteen months. In the year 2012, he also acquired a master's degree in Governance and Development from IDS SUSSEX.  

Anil Baijal, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

Anil Baijal is an Indian IAS Officer, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi & Civil Servant. He is a retired 1969 batch AGMUT (Arunachal-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territory) cadre IAS (Indian Administrative Services) Officer. He is presently the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi. He took charge after former LG resigned suddenly. Baijal has been in charge since 31st December 2016. Known for his extensive knowledge and work-first attitude, Anil Baijal is the 21st LG of Delhi.

Dr. Ashok Khosla, President, IUCN 

Dr. Ashok Khosla founded and was president of the thirty-year-old Development Alternatives Group and now chairs its Board. Headquartered in New Delhi, the DA Group was among the first civil society organisations set up to address the issues of sustainable development as a whole. It also pioneered the concept of social enterprise, creating business-like approaches for eradicating poverty and conserving the natural resource base.

Currently, Dr. Khosla is president of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the world’s largest and most representative alliance of conservation agencies and interest groups; co-president of the Club of Rome, a group dedicated to promoting systems-based strategic understanding of the world problematique and the human predicament; and co-chair of the Resource Panel, which has been set up by UNEP to investigate the status and trends of natural resource use in the global economy. 

Ani Dasgupta, Global Director, WRI Ross Center For Sustainable Cities

Aniruddha (Ani) Dasgupta is the Global Director of WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, WRI’s program that galvanizes action to help cities grow more sustainably and improve quality of life in developing countries around the world. Ani guides WRI Sustainable Cities in developing environmentally, socially, and financially sustainable solutions to improve people’s quality of life in developing cities. Prior to joining WRI, Ani served at the Director of Knowledge and Learning at the World Bank, where he provided leadership and direction for the Bank’s role in offering knowledge services for development. In 2010, he helped develop the World Bank’s first knowledge strategy. Before leading the Bank’s knowledge work, he coordinated the Bank’s internal reform program as the director of the Reform Secretariat. 

Aswathy Dilip, Senior Programme Manager, Institute of Transportation and Development Policy

Aswathy Dilip, an architect - urban designer, is a Senior Programme Manager at the Institute of Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). ITDP is a global nonprofit organisation providing technical expertise to accelerate the growth of sustainable transport and urban development around the world. Aswathy leads ITDP's work in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry where she supports cities to design liveable and vibrant environments for walking and cycling; to plan and implement high-quality, environmentally sustainable mass transit; as well as to integrate smart urban design and transport by encouraging transit-oriented real estate development.

Ashwin Mahesh, Co-founder, Lithium 

Ashwin Mahesh is an urbanist, journalist, politician and social technologist based in Bangalore. After his education in atmospheric science (PhD) and astronomy (MS), he was a research faculty at NASA Goddard Earth and Science Technology Centre, USA. After returning from USA, Ashwin became a researcher at IIM, Bangalore and at CiSTUP in IISc. He was also an adjunct faculty member at International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and Urban Research Strategist at the Office of Urban Affairs for the Karnataka government.

He is a co-founder of the national public affairs magazine, India Together. He also founded the social technology firm, Mapunity, and is one of the co-founders of the electric vehicles-based transportation company, Lithium. He is also a founder member of Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC). He is a driving force behind numerous urban development projects in Bangalore including traffic management solutions, cleaning up and preservation of lakes.

Chetan Maini, Vice Chairman, SUN Mobility

Chetan Maini, Co-Founder, Vice Chairman at SUN Mobility, is an Indian business magnate in the automobile industry focused on the clean mobility paradigm. He is best known for building India's first electric car, REVA, and as the Founder of Reva Electric Car Company Ltd, now Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, where he served as an advisor. SUN Mobility, a joint venture between Virya Mobility 5.0 and SUN New Energy Systems, aims to be the leading provider of universal energy infrastructure and services to accelerate mass electric vehicle usage. Prior to Via, David headed up BD and Corp Dev at Snagajob, founded a venture backed startup, worked at Bain Consulting (including a fascinating 6 months in Bain’s Gurgaon office) and in private equity. Gaurav Anand, ‎Chief Manager, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (‎JUSCO)

Gaurav Anand is an environmental engineer by profession, and has worked in diverse fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT), smart city management, climate change, and river action planning. He is passionate about protecting and sustaining the environment through continuous learning, innovative approaches and implementation. Apart from his degree in environmental engineering, he has completed several courses on edX related to climate change, public health, solar energy, innovation, solid state chemistry and big data analytics. 

As an officer at JUSCO for 13 years, he has worked on projects pertaining to city data, smart cities, waste management, quality assurance, environment and climate change. He has presented research papers regarding IoT and sustainability, city data, and the possibilities of waste management for Indian cities at various forums.

Geetam Tiwari, IIT Delhi

Prof. Geetam Tiwari is currently the TRIPP Chair Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India. She teaches transportation planning, traffic engineering and transport economics and finance to master's and bachelor's students apart from guiding Ph.D. students working in the area of transport planning, safety and non-motorised transport. 

Prof. H.M. Shivanand Swamy, CEPT University

Prof. H.M. Shivanand Swamy is the Executive Director of Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport at CEPT University. He is a postgraduate in Economics and urban and regional planning, and has completed advanced courses in transport and planning from the IIM, Bangalore and the University of Birmingham. He has 27 years of teaching, research and professional consultancy experience. His strength is his strategic and programmatic skills, which are reflected projects definition of transport policies and, design and implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit Systems Cities in Gujarat. He was also instrumental in the design of an urban development program for eight north-eastern states of India and the urban development policy for Gujarat. He is one of the principle resource persons on urban and regional development issues for the State of Gujarat and has led multi-disciplinary teams for projects supported by donors such as the World Bank, ADB, UNDP and State and Local Governments in India.

Indira Rajaraman, Former Professor, IIM Bangalore

Dr. Indira Rajaraman was a Member of the Thirteenth Finance Commission. From 1994 until her retirement in 2007 she held the Reserve Bank of India Chair at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, Delhi, and from 1976 to 1994 she was on the Economics faculty of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. She was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard and Stanford Universities (1984-85), and at the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (2004). Dr. Rajaraman’s research papers have appeared in journals and books published by Elsevier, Springer Verlag, John Wiley, the Brookings Institution and Oxford University Press, on a wide range of development issues. She writes regularly in the financial press.

Jamshyd Godrej, MD Godrej & Boyce and Chairman WRI India

Jamshyd Naoroji Godrej is managing director and chairman of Godrej & Boyce, the family's consumer durables holding company. In 2012, Forbes magazine named him one of the richest green billionaires. He is committed to halving the carbon footprint of the Godrej Group, and developing a new line of energy-efficient refrigerators for Asian and African markets. Godrej is also committed to making cities liveable, and mentors the World Resources Institutes’ Cities and Transport programme in India, in his role as Chairman of the Board.

Jagan Shah, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA)

Prof. Jagan Shah has 20 years of professional work experience in various aspects of urban development in India. He studied Architectural Design from School of Planning & Architecture (SPA), New Delhi and Architectural History & Theory from the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University, USA. He has served as the Director of Sushant School of Architecture, Gurgaon and has taught at the School of Planning & Architecture (SPA) from 1998 till 2006. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Chief Executive of Urban Space Consultants, providing consultancy in policy formulation, spatial planning, heritage conservation, transportation and livelihoods development, for clients such as Infrastructure Development Finance Company, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transport System, Jaipur Virasat Foundation, Sir Ratan Tata Trust, India Foundation for the Arts and others. 

Jan Rickmeyer- Transport Policy Advisor, GIZ

With a decade of experience in transport planning, Jan Rickmeyer joined the Sustainable Mobility sector of GIZ in 2017, where he is responsible for sustainable transport policy counseling on local, regional and international levels. Jan is well connected and deeply embedded within development cooperation missions and international sustainable mobility projects through his experiences in various positions such as the Cycling Coordinator of the City of Leipzig, Project Manager for European Union projects Central MeetBike and DEMO EC, and associate for CycleCities and MOVCIT projects. These experiences, along with his support of organizations like the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation in Russia and Connective Cities Initiative in Thailand and the Philippines, have built upon his passion for cycling with hands-on contributions to strategic cycling development initiatives and the integration of non-motorized transport within Germany and internationally.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Information Technology, Telangana Govt.

Jayesh Ranjan is the Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of the Telangana government. His assignment involves developing policy frameworks, attracting new investments, identifying opportunities of utilizing IT in various government processes, and promoting digital empowerment of the citizens. He has held positions in the Industrial Promotion Sector, Tourism promotion department and Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and has worked in areas like Tribal Development, natural resource management, poverty alleviation and other social development sectors.

Jessica Seddon, Director Of Integrated Urban Strategy, WRI Ross Center For Sustainable Cities

Jessica Seddon is the Director of Integrated Urban Strategy at the WRI Ross Center for Cities. She is the global lead for the Urban Development team, a network of researchers and practitioners across WRI’s offices that focuses on helping cities leverage spatial planning tools and strategic investments to achieve resource-efficient, equitable, resilient, and livable cities. Jessica also works with teams across the Cities and other programs at WRI to develop and implement information platforms that motivate and support government, business, and community collaboration toward sustainable urbanization. Outside of WRI, Jessica serves on the advisory board of the Wilderhill Global Clean Energy Index (NEX).

Madhav Pai, India Director, WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities

Madhav Pai is the Director, India of WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. Previously, Madhav was regional director for South & South East Asia at Citilabs, a transport planning software company. In the San Francisco Bay Area, he spent four year working at Dowling Associates Inc. managing and executing several transport planning, demand estimation, transport modeling and traffic engineering projects. Madhav is educated in transport planning, and is a qualified civil engineer.

M K Sinha, Joint Secretary- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)

M.K. Sinha is the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. He was previously the Director of Planning at the Ministry of Railways. He has served across a range of strategic and operational assignments in India. He took over the charge in the Ministry of Urban Development on 2nd December 2013, as OSD and is the head of the rail and road based urban transport in India. He is the Nodal officer for national level planning of Urban Transport Infrastructure, formulation of economic policies related to funding, creation and the operation of urban transport infrastructure.

Prior to joining WRI India, Om Prakash (O.P.) Agarwal was the Executive Director at the Indian School of Business and chaired the U.S. Transport Research Board's Committee on Transportation in Developing Countries. He is a highly respected thinker and practitioner with a wealth of experience in cities, urban transport, climate change and related development and environment issues. He has served as a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and held several positions from 1979 to 2007.

Sameep Padora, Architect and Founder, Sameep Padora & Associates (sP+a)

Sameep Padora is the principal architect and founder of Sameep Padora & Associates (sP+a), a Mumbai based architecture studio engaged in projects of multiple scales, all framed within a larger interest in history and typological research.

Sameep completed his undergraduate studies in Mumbai in 1996 followed by post-graduate studies at Cambridge, where he received a Master's Degree from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 2005. Tanmay leads the Environmental Design Solutions [EDS] team of consultants working on climate change policies, energy efficient building design, building code development, energy efficiency policy development, energy simulation and green building certification process. Since 2003, EDS has worked on over 500 green building and energy efficiency projects worldwide. He has led the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) development and Eco-Housing program in India, and has worked closely with government agencies, manufacturers, and consumer organizations in developing energy efficiency policies and programs globally. In addition, Tanmay has worked on a diverse range of projects dealing with sustainable development, building energy efficiency, green buildings, and energy efficiency standards and labelling in Asia, Africa and the US, over the last 25 years.

Vijay Saini, Senior Programme Officer- Urban Team, ICLEI South Asia

Vijay is a Civil Engineer with master’s degree in infrastructure planning from Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University, Ahmedabad. He has over 5 years of experience in the field of urban development and transportation systems, and has worked on various aspects of transportation infrastructure in more than 25 cities, which includes electric mobility, MRTS, freight management, route rationalization, pedestrian infrastructure for heritage area, financial feasibilities, road network geometrics and traffic impact assessment. Currently at ICLEI South Asia, he assists the Urban team on urban development and infrastructure activities.

Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Rajya Sabha MP  

A nationalist at heart, a political scholar by profession, and a politician by elevation, Sahasrabuddhe dons many hats at the same time. He is a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra since July 2016. Dr Sahasrabuddhe is the President at Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He looks after the Good Governance, Central and State Government Program Coordination and Policy Research Department at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its National Vice President. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe is also In-Charge of BJP, Madhya Pradesh. Dr Sahasrabuddhe is the Vice President at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, which is a one of its kind research and training academy for elected representatives and social workers.
